Diet and Rheumatoid Arthritis

There is a growing body of research on the relationship between nutrition, diet, and Rheumatoid Arthritis.  But so far, researchers have not found any “miracle” foods that will definitively affect the course of your RA. They have found evidence that some with RA are poorly nourished — through no fault of their own — and could benefit from nutritional counseling.

A Healthy Diet for Rheumatoid Arthritis

According to a report on nutrition and rheumatoid arthritis issued by Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, patients with RA are considered to be at nutritional risk for many reasons. One cause is weight loss due to chemicals produced when there is inflammation in the body. It’s also common, says the report, for rheumatoid arthritis patients to lack adequate amounts of essential vitamins and minerals, including folic acid, vitamins C, D, E, B6 and B12, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and selenium. Therefore, it’s a good idea to take Supplements if you have rheumatoid arthritis.

In general, a well-balanced diet is a wise course for those with rheumatoid arthritis, Dr.  A proper diet with multiple servings of fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains, as well as limiting red meat and high-fat foods, is essential.
