How to Become Healthier As You Grow Older

The human body is often compared to an automobile … it runs smoothly and trouble-free when it’s new or young.  But as time goes by, it eventually starts having problems — just like a car, which begins to break down or need repairs as it runs more miles.

This is why most people dread getting older.  They see and feel themselves going downhill, and with age, degenerative diseases begin to appear.  Degenerative diseases, by definition, are diseases in which the function or structure of tissues or organs progressively deteriorate over time.

By these definitions, the majority of doctors in the U.S. and the entire Western world are … inferior doctors.  That’s because modern medicine tends to be more about “fixing the broken parts” of the body rather than maintaining optimum health.

Just as lack of maintenance is one of the major reasons a car breaks down, a body that is poorly maintained over a period of time will often manifest disease.  That disease is then erroneously associated with aging, even though it has nothing to do with aging.

Consider a car engine that hasn’t been maintained well — the engine oil hasn’t been changed in a long time.  Even though that engine might have relatively low miles, it probably already needs costly repair.  Another engine, however, which has been maintained well, would still be in very good condition, needing no repair at all — even after 175,000 miles (281,000 km).

It’s the same with your body.  Age doesn’t really matter because you can stay active, disease-free and have vibrant health by giving your body what it NEEDS instead of giving it what you WANT.
